The Selectboard is the legislative body of the Town of Stowe. They are responsible for policy-making, approving budgets, adopting local laws and regulations, and focusing on the big-picture goals of the community.
The Development Review Board is a quasi-judicial body charged with administering key provisions of the Town's zoning bylaws and subdivision regulations.
The Stowe Planning Commission consists of seven members appointed by the Selectboard and is responsible for both long-range planning functions and short-range development regulation.
The responsibilities of the Conservation Commission are to develop and maintain the Town's resources and other lands which have historic, educational, cultural, scientific, architectural or archeological value
The Recreation Commission recommends facility development and use of the Town's recreational facilities.
The Historic Preservation Commission performs design review for exterior alterations, demolition, and relocation of historic buildings and for any development within the Stowe Historic Overlay District.
The Cemetery Commission oversees the Town's seven cemeteries and is responsible for administrating cemetery regulations, maintaining records and planning for future needs.
The Board of Listers is responsible for the Town's Grand List of approximately 4,000 parcels and the policies and work of the Town Appraiser.
The Library Board of Trustees is responsible for assessing library needs for the community, developing a plan of service, and evaluating library performance.
The Stowe Electric Commission provides policy guidance for the Stowe Electric Department and oversees its General Manager.
The Energy Committee makes recommendations to the Selectboard, the Planning Commission, and the Town Manager regarding Town policy on energy-related matters.
The Stowe Arts & Culture Council's purpose is to promote Stowe as an arts and culture destination for quality of life and for economic development purposes.
The Housing Task Force is an advisory body charged with collecting data and making recommendations on how to better support year-round residential housing at more affordable price points.
The Board of Civil Authority is charged with the conduct of elections, hearing and deciding tax assessment appeals, and serving as members of the Board of Abatement.
The Board of Abatement holds hearings on requests to abate assessed property taxes and utility fees.
