Town Clerk & Treasurer

The Town Clerk & Treasurer is responsible for providing a number of services to the public, including the receiving and recording of all land and vital records, administering elections, issuance of certified copies of birth, death and marriage certificates, and the issuance of civil marriage licenses and dog licenses. In addition to receiving, recording and issuing these documents, this office is responsible for the maintenance, indexing, and storage of all of these records as required by State law.

How do I get copies of tax bills?

Please email the Town Clerk’s office. We will email, fax or mail a copy to you.

How do I obtain a Certified Birth or Death Certificate?

Complete an Application for Certified Copy of Vermont Birth or Death Certificate(PDF, 328KB), and email, fax or mail the request along with a copy of your valid driver’s license and a check or money order for $10.00 per certified copy. We will mail the certified copy to you via the United States Postal Service or stop by to pickup at the Memorial Building.

How do I license my dog?

Visit the Town Clerk's office or paperwork can be mailed, left in the drop box, along with checks or money orders made payable to the Town of Stowe. If your dog has recently had its rabies vaccination, please include copy of vaccination. After April 1st the fees will increase to $13.50 altered and $19.50 to unaltered.

How do I register my vehicle?

The Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles manages vehicle registration. You can manage registration online at myDMV or at a DMV office.

How do I obtain a marriage license?

Complete a Civil Marriage Application and email to townclerk@stowevt.gov we will set up an appointment at that time to schedule a time to sign and obtain the license. Certified copies will be processed once the officiant returns the license to the Town Clerk’s office, usually mailed out within 24 hours of receipt.

How do I renew my passport?

By appointment only.

How do I get my Hunting and/or Fishing License?

To renew or apply for a license please visit the website of the Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife.

How do I obtain a Special Event Permit, Request to Cater, or other type of liquor permit?

All applications and associated fees must be submitted to the Vermont Department of Liquor Control through their online portal:

Any questions can be submitted to the town clerk at townclerk@stowevt.gov or you can find more information at the Department of Liquor and Lottery - Division of Liquor Control

After the application has been submitted to the Vermont Department of Liquor Control, it is then transmitted to the Town for approval. Liquor permits are approved by the Selectboard / Liquor Commission on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month. Please submit your application with as much lead time as possible to allow for the permit to be approved in a timely manner.

If your application was submitted close to your event, please contact us at townclerk@stowevt.gov to confirm it has been received and so we can advance it for approval.
