Emergency Management

Stowe Emergency Management is responsible for the organization and management of resources and for dealing with all humanitarian aspects of emergencies: preparedness, response, recovery and mitigation.

The aim is to reduce the harmful effects of all hazards, including disasters. This requires the coordination of and cooperation with all Stowe public safety agencies as well as both private and municipal services and utilities.

Stowe Vermont Phases of Emergency Management

VT-Alert

The Stowe Emergency Management Team and Stowe Public Safety is excited to announce that we will be transitioning to VT-ALERT as the primary communication system for local emergency notifications.

VT-ALERT is a statewide system that is operated and managed by the Vermont Department of Public Safety. The platform sends subscribers emails, text messages or phone calls.

Stowe-specific alerts will include notices of storm preparations, traffic alerts, road closures, and other public safety emergencies. Not only can the subscriber choose how they want to be notified, they can also choose the type of alert they receive and for what geographic area it is for. Even if you live in a location that doesn’t have cell service, the system can dial your landline phone. This system is also not just designed for residents, it is intended to be used by anyone that visits, works or lives in the area.

Please share this message with your friends, family and neighbors. The more subscribers, the better we will be able to serve the community. If you have any questions, please contact Emergency Management Director, Police Chief Don Hull at dhull@stowevt.gov.

CARE (Citizens Assistance Registry for Emergencies)

Would You Need Help in a Disaster?

Emergencies can take many forms. Ice storms, floods, fires, major traffic accidents, and similar events can cause power outages, isolate individuals, or prompt the need for evacuation. If prolonged, these events may become life threatening for people with certain disabilities or other circumstances.

The CARE program was created to help emergency responders identify Vermonters who might need additional assistance in case of a wide-scale event. If you, or someone you know, might need additional assistance in such an emergency, please complete the online registration below.

Please note:

  • Your registration with CARE does not guarantee your safety.

  • It is the registrant’s responsibility to call 911 if they have an emergency and need medical, police, or fire response.

  • CARE is designed to be used by emergency responders to assist registrants in a disaster. It is up to the emergency responders to decide when and how to use it.

  • By completing this registration, you understand that all groups involved in helping to keep you safe in an emergency may have access to your registration information.

  • If you move, or your circumstances change, please log in and make any necessary updates to your registration information.

  • You will need to log in to your account and confirm your registration is still accurate at least every 12 months. The Enhanced 911 Board will reach out with a reminder message. Failure to update your record or confirm with the Enhanced 911 Board will cause your information to be removed from the registry.

Please follow steps below for online registration:
